Drama Centre Transformation!

As our class talks more about different modes of transportation, we decided change our Drama area.  Our students had so many ideas, some of them were...

"Watching a movie from your car!"  N.W.  (A Drive In!)
"Where you fix your car!" D.V.  (Mechanic Shop)

Yesterday we decided to make a Car Wash! We made a list of all of the things we might see in a car wash, including; soap, water, cloths and towels, stop lights and stop signs and somewhere to pay money!

A.M. "When me and my Dad went to the Car Wash we had to pay money."

Here are some photos of us beginning to make our cars!  We have so many ideas and even moved our Drama Centre to be closer to our sinks!

First we painted paper so our cars could be different colours.

Next we cut wheels out of black paper.  We know that cars need 4 wheels to move.

We added our painted paper onto the boxes... Our cars are coming together! We can't wait for you to see them tonight at Meet the Teacher Night!

Terry Fox Run

Today was the Terry Fox Run.  During our Morning Message, we discussed how Terry Fox was a very strong man, who ran across Canada to raise money for Cancer. Today, Rick Hansen Public School also ran to raise money to support cancer research!  Thanks for all of your support and donations!

The whole school stretched their muscles before starting the run.

All three Kindergarten classes ran around the pylons in a circle on the tarmac.

Our First Inquiry!

Inquiry plays a huge role in the Ontario Full-Day Early Learning Kindergarten Curriculum.  Mrs. Taebpour and I have been observing the students closely while they explore and investigate their learning environment and different classroom materials.

One day last week, D.V. shouted, "look outside, there is a big truck!" All of the students ran to the window to see one of the large garbage trucks in the parking lot taking away the RHPS waste!  Slowly, more students have been standing at the window watching the different kinds of vehicles in our parking lot.

On Monday, September 17 we decided to venture out on our first nature walk to find different things that were interesting to us.  Every student took a clipboard with them and they were encouraged to draw a picture or ask for help to write words of things that they liked and wanted to know more about.  Sure enough... many students began noticing cars, motorcycles, trucks, bicycles, scooters all around our school!  We think this is the beginning of our first inquiry!

Planes and cars made from Bristol Blocks!

Stay tuned!   : )

Inspiration is Everywhere !

We have been inspired by our Science table in the past few days!  Look at some of the fantastic learning that has been going on.  Students talk about their pictures and Mrs. Taebpour and I help them write about their thoughts afterward.

A.L. and E.R. wanted to draw a picture of the flowers at the Science Table!

A.M. drew a picture of the small pebbles and large rocks at the Science area.  When she was asked, "where do you think the pebbles came from?"  She drew a picture of a beach!  We are already inferring!

We're On Our Way!

We are already in our third week of school and students are really starting to settle into their routines!  Mrs. Taebpour and I are looking forward to meeting everyone at Meet the Teacher night on September 27 from 6:30pm-8:00pm.  More information about the evening will be coming home in the students mailbags very soon!

In September, our classroom is focused on setting the groundwork to be successful learners in our routines and also understanding expectations for learning and behaviour.  Every morning between 9:30am-11:00am our students participate in literacy activities.  Below are some pictures of us using a pocket chart, magnetic letters, whiteboards and stamps!  We can't wait to show you more at our Meet the Teacher Night!

Watch Us Grow!

Today was the first day of school!  It was filled with excitement!  We have made many new friends and met our Principal Mr. Gardner.  Despite the rainy weather, nothing could dampen our spirits as we finished the first day of school EVER at Rick Hansen Public School!

These photos show what our classroom looked like just last week!  Many, many people, including our fantastic caretakers have been working so hard to have our school ready for today.

A first glance on Tuesday, August 28!  Just one week before school starts!

Mrs. Taebpour and I got all of the furniture set up!

Whiteboards going in and electricians in the ceiling on Wednesday, August 29!
