Our sky inquiry has blasted off even further into the atmosphere! Currently, students in our class are wondering and thinking about Space! Questioning, planning, predicting, constructing, observing and communicating, are large components in the Full Day Kindergarten curriculum document. Take a look at how we have been practicing these skills!
Some wondering questions we have had are:
Z.L. "I wonder why we can't see space?"
P.Z. "Is there water in space?"
E.R. (jk) "How come the Sun doesn't move and everything else moves?"
K.H. "The Sun doesn't see anything." S.S. "I think if the Sun moved it would hit the people."
G.A. "It is too big."
E.R. sk "It might hit the Earth or other things and then it would fall."
E.B. "The hot gas would drop."
V.T. "I think the Sun's hot gases would drop on other planets."
I.L. "I think it is in the middle."
Z.L. "I think this is there are so many hot gases it can't move."
M.O. "Maybe there is something inside it that doesn't let it move."
A.K. (jk) "If the Sun started to move the planets would stop."
S.M. "Because the Sun holds onto the planets."
U.Q. "Because the moon goes fast."
A.L. "The Sun and the moon."
J.L. "Because the Sun is too heavy."
L.H. "The earth would bonk into it."
L.S. "I think the Sun would block the Earth's way."
S.B. "If it moved the Earth can't spin around it and the moon can't spin."
D.V. "I think the Sun is a magnet."
H.H. "The Sun stays here."
E.R. (jk) "It might hit the Earth or other things and then it would fall."

| We read a lot of different books about Space and here is what we have learned about the Sun so far! |
E.R. (sk) "The Sun is in the centre of our Solar System."
G.A. "The Sun is very big."
Z.L. "It's the biggest in our Solar System."
D.M. "Our Earth spins around the Sun in 1 year."
S.Z. "The Sun is made of hot gases."
A.K.(jk) "The Sun is really a star."
In a one of our discussions about space, Mrs. Z. explained to our class when she learned about the Solar System when she was in school there were 9 planets! Pluto was the 9th planet that was furthest away from the Sun. The class was very excited about this and with great excitement they all wondered where Pluto went? Here are some of our predictions!
AK (jk) - It was too cold.
D.M. - I think Pluto was really a star.
S.Z. - I think Pluto turned into a constellation.
H.H. - It's on the Sun.
A.L. The rocks bumped into Pluto.
A.D. He went down and down and down.
E.Z. The rocks bumped into Pluto.
J.M.X. Pluto doesn't like the Sun.
L.S. It crashed into the Earth.
I.L. It went on the Earth.
K.H. He blew up.
G.A. Pluto went far away.
E.B. Plus went to the side.
V.T. I wonder if Pluto went to make new friends at the Solar System.
M.O. I wonder if Pluto didn't have an orbit.
S.M. He went to another Solar System.
S.B. He didn't like the other planets.
L.H. Pluto bumped into the Sun.
J.Lnd. Another planet bumped into Pluto.
J.L. Pluto turned into a rock.
Z.L. I think it was too old and it lost its path.
D.V. Pluto wanted to go to the Doctor.
E.R. (sk) Maybe the compets moved it away.
Here is more documentation of our learning!
